FAQs About Green Island Transfer

Yes, Green Island is one of the easiest and most popular day trips from Cairns, offering a combination of reef, beach, and rainforest experiences just a short ferry ride away. The Beach is great for relaxing and the reef surrounding the island is vibrant and often turtles are found swimming around it.

Most Green Island day trips include return ferry transfers and free time on the island. You can also book a glass bottom boat ride, snorkeling, beginner scuba diving and more from Green island, check our website fro more options you may want to do from the island.

Green Island offers either a full day trip or a half day trip with either a late start or an early finish. We recommend giving enough time to snorkel, explore the island, relax on the beach, and enjoy an activity or two.

Green island is a short 45 minute ferry from main land cairns. The ferry leave from Cairns Marlin Marina after checking in at the Reef Fleet Terminal.

Green Island has casual cafes and resort restaurants where you can buy breakfast, lunch, snacks, cold drinks, coffee, and ice cream. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own food and enjoy a picnic. However if you want an alcoholic drink on the island it is asked to not bring your own but to purchase from the bar.

Popular activities include snorkelling, swimming, relaxing on the beach, taking glass bottom boat or semi-submarine tours, scuba diving, walking through rainforest tracks, and enjoying food and drinks at island cafes. There are sun lounges on the beach you can rent from the resort or bring your own towels to relax.

Yes. Green Island features a well maintained boardwalk that loops through the island’s rainforest. The walk is easy, mostly flat, and provides a chance to see tropical plants, birds, and native wildlife. Green Island gets it’s name from one of James Cook’s crew – Charles Green, however the name is fitting giving the lucious rainforest it has.

Yes, Green Island is a great choice for families. The island has calm swimming areas, shallow snorkelling spots, easy walking tracks, cafes, toilets, and shaded areas. Activities such as glass bottom boat tours and snorkelling make it suitable for both adults and children. Due to the gradual decline from the beach into the ocean, Green island is a great option for beginner snorkellors as well as none confident swimmers.

If you want to experience both Green Island and more of the Great Barrier reef you can opt into the Great Barrier Reef plus Green island package which gives you time in the morning to explore Green Island before heading aboard one of the Moore Reef pontoons which includes all the snorkeling equipment, semi submersible which is similar to the glass bottom boat but offers more visability as well as the underwater observatory.
